Winter events include the Nelson School of Music Winter Festival in July. For book lovers there is one of New Zealand's largest 2nd hand book fairs in June. Enjoy outdoor activities without the summer crowds. Explore the three national parks that are all within an easy drive. The stunning coastline of the Abel Tasman National Park can be particularly lovely to walk or kayak in the winter months while the Nelson Lakes National Park boasts alpine scenery and ski-fields. Slightly closer to home the new Kahurangi National Park also offers a variety of adventures. Just a short walk from our doorstep, you can spend hours walking and beachcombing Tahunanui Beach.
